In Athens, Georgia, May brings finals week and the start of summer sessions at the University. Athens is still a college town and its pulse relaxes when Spring Semester ends. Fewer students, perhaps more serious ones. Less traffic. More room at the Globe bar.
In my day, summer school ran June through August. Now it goes May through July. We fire up again in mid-August. Why the change? No answer…
This is a political summer. The telephone tells all, with calls afternoon and evening, young volunteers from unknown numbers begging your financial support. What can’t be cured – etc.
It has become so nasty. I can understand the frustrations of my conservative friends, in this chaotic and confusing time, reaching for a touchstone of long-cherished beliefs. And my liberal friends, anxious to steer the ship into bold new seas, unaware of the reefs of unintended consequences.
Reach out, my bellicose friends. Try on the huaraches of your adversaries. In truth – one size fits all.
Forgive me. I never blog about politics.

Dac--I never blog about politics, either, or religion. I don't even put my opinions about those on FB, and I cannot discuss either with friends..it's the fastest way to kill a friendship.
Before the last election, I did get in a heavy conversation with a long-time friend, who in the past was on the same side as I. But she changed for the last election and tried very, very hard to make me see her view. I kept saying...no.
Finally, she said, "Can't you just give him a chance?" Okay, I said, I'll give him a chance--but I won't vote for him.
Well, I honestly did give him and his group a chance.
Lord, we are in a scary mess. (I hope this doesn't start an argument--it's just for you.)

Dac,
These are confusing times! Gee, I wonder how many generations have said those words. It's difficult to know what or who to believe anymore but I'm sure that's always been true too.
